The pain-kisser

It was raining heavily and a girl ran hurriedly to reach the main gate of a house. She was trying to cover her hair from drenching while trying to keep the hot parcel away from getting wet. She carefully roped up the parcel in her Dupatta (part of Indian woman costume). She had been worried that her love was suffering with bad health.

She knocked on the door. A low and weak voice replied, “come in.” She went inside and put the bolt.

“I told you not to come. You could get into trouble, Sariya!” Surya spoke indistinctly.

“Here, take this vegetable soup. I have made it by myself. You’ll feel better.” Sariya smiled and opened the container and gave it to him.

Surya took a spoon and started having it. He was feeling better with the exchanging words than the rising vapors from the soup. The contents of the soup awakened his physical body while her words eased his gloomy soul.

“I’ve been missing you a lot. I couldn’t stay at home with you having being sick.” Tear drops were falling off her wet eyes.

“Hey, this illness is not forever Sariya. We shall be. Do you under…..” He crunched a tiny piece of green Chilli and couldn’t tolerate even that little spiciness due to the mouth boils that he had developed over illness.

His small cry out of pain was followed by a sweet kiss out of love. Sariya raised up as her lips urged to reach his. Surya’s lips locked hers and both of them wanted time to stand still. As the space around them surrendered for their intimacy, Sariya’s tear droplet fell on the centre of his palm. His fingers formed a closed fist and had decided not to let her tear droplet leave his palm.

“Is it still spicy, Surya?” Sariya wiped her tears off and asked him slowly as she stood up.

“You won’t leave me, right? Can you stay for a while, Sariya?” Surya whispered looking away from her and towards the ground.

She took his hand in hers, kissed them and said, “You know that I would stay if I could. Don’t you?”

“Thanks for the pain-killer” He smiled and watched as she went into the light that had just filled the darkest phase of his life.
